Yesterday was a less-than-stellar day. An issue with the rental house’s car, a dragging workday, and Lina apparently forgetting everything she’s learned thus far and deciding to just do her own thing all day. Needless to say, I was in a pretty crappy mood by the time I headed home.
But then I was reminded that my current home is paradise, and the evening went something like this…
A precious golden retriever mix lives somewhere in our neighborhood and she adores us. Whenever she sees either of us on the road she runs to give us giant hugs. Adorable paws-around-your-waist, head-nuzzling-your-stomach doggie hugs. How can you be in a bad mood when you’re being hugged by a dog?! She found us walking home yesterday and followed us home (which she has done before). We gave her two bowls of food and water (which we’ve done before), and she decided to stay with us all night (which she has never done before!). We played on the beach, she patiently sat while I pulled little burrs out of her fur, and then she sprawled out on the front porch for hours.
I laid in my hammock, cold beermosa in hand. Our lovely doggie friend lay under me, looking up at me with her tongue hanging out of the side of her mouth nearly hitting the floor. Our doggie was inside – less than pleased about an intruder on her turf – but happily munching on a bacon treat. And then I watched a perfect tangerine sun slide ever so slowly into the clouds on the horizon. A white crane walked through the shallows eating dinner. The water was golden glass as the sun finally set. In a word, it was simply
breathtaking absurd. I mean, really, this is my actual life?! All I could do was laugh and shake my head looking around at it all. I am so unbelievably lucky.
Living in paradise really does make everything better.
